Sitting IELTS before the underlying English is ready spends an exam fee to learn something a teacher could have told you. Pre-IELTS builds the vocabulary, grammar and fluency the exam assumes, without exam technique getting in the way of the language.
Students practise reading and listening to longer unfamiliar material, writing structured paragraphs, and speaking at length on a single topic — the three things that most often hold a band score down. From here, IELTS preparation is about the exam rather than about the English.
