Programming

Programming from first principles — how to think about a problem before writing the code that solves it.

Category
Academic subjects
Who it's for
Students starting programming or preparing for computing studies
Format
In person or online

Programming is taught here as a way of thinking, not as a tour of one language's syntax. Students learn to break a problem down, describe the steps precisely, and only then write and test the code.

Work moves from the basics — variables, control flow, functions, data structures — to complete small programmes a student has designed themselves. Debugging is treated as part of the subject rather than an interruption to it, because reading and fixing your own code is most of what programming actually is.
